When asked by the press whether the win against Tottenham and the three points made a decent 64th birthday present, van Gaal started crooning the classic 1967 Beatles track When I’m Sixty-Four, which was sung by Paul McCartney.
“The Beatles have a song,” he said, before briefly singing the song. He went on to add: “When you hear what they are singing, all my wishes are fulfilled.”
One of his most famous press conference moments last season was when handed out a ‘dossier’ to the press to prove that his side didn’t play many long balls. He had also referred to Chris Smalling as ‘Mike’ during United’s pre-season tour, although the United defender simply laughed it off.
